Allan Berman: True Love Ways
Buddy Holly pioneered the sound that would become the greatest music phenomenon of the 20th Century: rock and roll. Hits such as "Peggy Sue" and "Thatll Be the Day" made Buddy an international sensation, and his songs remain perennial classics today. Buddys importance to the birth of rock and roll is commemorated by Don McLeans song "American Pie," which fittingly calls the day of Buddys death "the day the music died."
Decades later, Buddy continues to inspire other artists to pay him tribute. Allan Berman, a lifelong fan, has kept Buddys memory alive in unique ways. In addition to impersonating his favorite rocknroller, the Lake Wildwood, California resident has created a painting called "True Love Ways."
The painting, whose title was inspired by a love song Buddy wrote for his wife, Maria Elena, depicts several items identified with Buddy: a Fender guitar, red roses, a vinyl record and Buddys signature black-framed glasses. One hundred canvas hand-embellished prints of "True Love Ways" are available for purchase in Palm Springs, California and at the Buddy Holly Museum in Lubbock, Texas.
The prints, signed by both Berman and Maria Elena Holly, come with a CD of 10 of Bermans covers of Buddy Holly songs, a certificate of authenticity, a photo of Maria Elena signing the print and copies of her letters to Berman.
