LUBBOCK: Just days after the Buddy Holly Centers Birthday Celebration on September 3, 2005, patrons are encouraged to head over to Clovis, NM, for a festival that is sure to interest Buddy Holly fans of all ages. Clovis has announced the resurrection of a festival devoted to 1950's music, with their Clovis Music Festival scheduled for September 8 - 10, 2005. The Festival begins just one day after Buddy Holly's birthday, September 7th. The event is a "tribute to the artists that recorded with Norman Petty," the Clovis-based producer who recorded several of Buddy Holly's hit songs.
The Clovis Chamber of Commerce originally began these plans with an effort to book a return performance from John Mueller, a Buddy Holly tribute artist from California. Mueller visited Clovis last year, where he performed a 'Buddy Holly Tribute Show' before an enthusiastic crowd. Listening to the requests of interested citizens, the Clovis Chamber expanded their plans to recreate a festival that has been out of existence since the 1980's.
The weekend will include performances from The Crickets, Sonny West, The Fireballs, and John Mueller's Winter Dance Party Tour. There will also be a classic car show, tours of Norman Petty Studios, and a variety of activities for music lovers of all ages. On September 3, 2005, just before the Clovis Music Festival, the Buddy Holly Center will be hosting Buddy Holly's 69th Birthday Celebration. The celebration will have live music, food, drinks and activities for the whole family all day. Patrons of the Buddy Holly Center should plan to attend the Clovis Music Festival the following weekend to experience a celebration of 1950's music that spans across state lines.
