Born in Corning, New York, Duane Eddy began playing guitar at the tender age of five! He developed the twangy guitar style – a new concept in the 1950’s. |
He soon signed a contract with Dick Clark’s Jamie label and his second single, “Rebel-Rouser” became one of his biggest hits, reaching number six on the charts. He continued on and released fourteen top forty hits from 1958 to 1963, most of which were instrumentals. He also appeared in a movie with Dick Clark called “Because They’re Young” and the title song became his biggest hit, reaching number four on the top ten chart!
Duane Eddy has charted 34 singles and has had worldwide sales of over 100 million. Some of his successful songs were “Cannonbal”, “Shazam”, “Some Kinda’ Earthquake” and “The Lonely One”.
“Rebel Rouser” appeared in the movie Forrest Gump in the 1990’s and a new generation of Duane Eddy music fans appeared. The song was featured in the scene when Forrest ran across a football field after being chased by a pick-up truck loaded with rednecks. Duane’s other hit, “The Trembler” was featured in the movie Natural Born Killers in the scene involving a thunderstorm in the desert. His songs and compositions have also been heard in Broken Arrow and Scream 2.
Duane Eddy still tours with oldies shows and lives with his wife, Deed, near Nashville. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.
