Edna McGriff Biography
| Known for her most memorable hit “Heavenly Father (A Prayer For Love)”, Edna hailed from New York City and began her career at 17 years of age. On the strength of her huge success from “Heavenly Father”, Edna headlined shows for a full week at the Earle Theatre in Philadelphia as well Alan Freed’s “The Dance Caravan of R&B; Stars”. |
As a follow-up, Edna was also paired with Sonny Til from the group “Orioles”. They recorded duets of pop standards, “I Only Have Eyes For You” and “Once In A While”, “Picadilly” and “Good”.
Although Edna released various solo releases, none of her releases compared to her first release, “Heavenly Father” and she seemed to have disappeared from the music scene by the age of 20. She returned to the scene in 1957 with a new label and record, “I Get the Feeling” and “I Hurt Too Much To Cry”. The release was not a good seller and McGriff has not been heard from since.
