Hank Thompson Biography

Born September 3, 1925 in Waco, Texas, Hank Thompson’s six decades career characterized the “Honky Tonk Swing” musical style. His music, a mixture of big-band, fiddle and steel guitar added to his baritone voice. The Brazos Valley Boys, his backing band, were voted Number One Country Western Band by Billboard Magazine 14 years in a row!

Hank Thompson’s first number one album, “The Wild Side of Life”, released in 1952, was known for its signature line “I didn’t know God made honky-tonk angels”. He released more hits in the 1950’s and 1960’s and has remained active in the Country Music scene. He was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1969. In 1997, Hank Thompson was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
