I'm thinking we could start a discussion answering the following:

"You know you're a Buddy Holly fan when..."

..You constantly insert phases like "Oh Boy, It's So Easy, That'll Be The Day and Take Your Time" into your common everyday speech.
...Things in the distance become blurry and you purchase hornrim frames to bring them better into focus.
...You start seriously hyperventalating when your personal Strat is not near your person.

... you say "Maybe, Baby" when your girlfriend wants to drag you out shopping, because it seems smarter than saying "That'll be the Day" ...

... you read the Influenced Artists page, and knew about all of them except for John Mellencamp ...

every time someone mentions the name 'elvis presley' you feel a strong desire to teach that person some basics about rock n' roll and the development thereof.

you've seen "That'll be the Day -- The Legend of Buddy Holly" 54 times!!!

...You can mouth along the lines with the actors of the Buddy Holly Story and know what Buddy's friends and family are going to say before they say it themselves on The Real Buddy Holly Story.

lol have done basically all of these...more times than I can count lol ...how about when your room looks like a shrine dedicated to Buddy cause his face is plastered wall to wall and partially on the roof lol. And your a regular customer of the Buddy Holly Center gift shop despite the fact you dont even live in the U.S...and your able to write an in depth research paper on the man including specific dates of everything lol without actually going out of your way to do any research...or you start an argument with all your claas mates and your teacher cause someone mentioned Elvis was the king of rock n roll...anyone else ever done this stuff or am I just incurably obsessed/addicted? lol

...You can go on for hours about one single event in Buddy Holly's life
...Your mother has limited you to one hour a day to talk about Buddy Holly and then you have to find something new to talk about
...You're on a first name basis with Bill Griggs because you email him so constantly

....when you can turn any converstation into a Buddy Holly conversation...or when peoples most said phrase to you is "calm down, hes dead" ....or when you write a fan letter to Buddy and send it c/o rock n roll heaven...

...you buy a pair of prescription glasses exactly like Buddy's - and you have 20/20 vision.

...or somebody mentions Elvis - and you respond "Elvis WHO?".

lets see here...

when your 4 & 8 year olds know the words too buddy songs and sing them out loud...

when everytime the buddy holly screensaver pops up on the pc your 4 year old says" is that your holly bolly?" no shannon thats buddy holly, "oh you love him mom"

oh, and when you have pics on your sig lines on message boards.....i have him here and at the tom petty bbs...buddy's such a babe

...you become a Flight Attendant and run up and down the aisles on trips singing "Oh Boy!"...
...you draw Buddy Holly on the back of your serving slips on trips...
...you see a guy in the mall who is 5'11", curly hair, and hornrim glasses (uncommon for today but has been seen) and shout "THERES BUDDY HOLLY!"...

...when you make musik on a Rock`n Roll Party, the first Song is "Rave on" and over 20 % are Buddy`s Songs

...and, sorry, I forget; a small Buddy-Picture stand behind the Rear-Window in my `58 Cadillac

I know that I'm a Buddy fan day by day, year by year, decade by decade. When I heard the first Buddy Holly recordings, it was the beginning of an unbelievable and everlasting friendship with Buddy, his music and his personality.

You take leave from work, drive all they way to the other side of New Mexico to catch the Winter Dance Party Tour at the Clovis Music Festival, watch the show, and then drive all the way back home and get in bed at 5:30AM. ...and the only reason you didn't stay for the next night was because of your daughter's soccer meet.

I live on the other side of the planet and I would have been there, too, if I could.

My friend Dick Stewart, who made a great concert with George Tomsco from The Fireballs, lives in Albuquerque.

He was in Clovis. Texas Mike Bell, as well. The one who made the great CD "For the love of Buddy" together with Tommy Allsup.

I know him, as well. Tommy Allsup is in Jamaica at the moment with his son Austin, who made a debut as a singer on the above mentioned CD with the title "Reminiscing".

John Mueller mailed me twice about the festival.

Did you like it? Whom did you see and what locations did you go to?

I think a lot of people celebrated Buddy's birthday in Clovis last week.

The Clovis Music Festival was a 3 day resurrection of the previous music fest that had been on a 5 year hiatus. It was held in the Auditorium of the old, renovated, Marshall Jr. High School; which was a perfect setting. It was great was all I can say. I took my wife and kids. Checked the kidz out of school; called it a history lesson. We are Navajo Indians and safe to say, we were the only Native Americans there, but we know how to rock and roll.

John Meuller introduced Peggy Sue in the audience and she got a nice round of applause. A beautiful and poignant moment was when John had the original backup singers for "It's So Easy" come up on stage and perform the backups.

More info on the Fest at http://www.clovisnm.org. We'd like to have stayed for the second night, but we had to get back for my daughter's soccer match. There were a lot of 60 year olds that apparently knew each other ‘back when’ and they obviously were relishing the moment.

When you buy albums from artists simply because they knew Buddy Holly.

When you can walk into your bedroom and see pictures of him plaster across your walls. When you can look at all your cd's mostly decend from 50 to 59 music. When you go to the surfballroom every year from Febuaray 2-4 and morn the death of one great guy. When you can siing everysong of his with out skipping a beat.
