I'm beginning to get the idea that certain people who participate on this board are in this subtle competition to see who knows the most about Buddy Holly. Sometimes people want to share opinions or just appreciate the man, without being made to feel that they're less of a fan because they don't know every minute detail of his life.

This sort of behavior, if I am assuming correctly, is really sad, because it depreciates Buddy Holly and his music. It takes the emphasis away from the man and puts it on the competitor and the competition. Sharing info about Buddy Holly is great (especially when information is asked for), don't get me wrong; I've learned a lot, but I would just beseech everyone to check and make sure their attitude is that of respect for his music rather than a desire to look good or make others look bad.

i think you have a valid point, but remember that so few people really treasure buddy holly's music (in comparison to say, elvis) that it behooves those of us, as his die-hard fans, to learn all we can about him. he wasn't given his due while he was alive - we do our best to see that he gets at least some of it now.

i think don mcclean had that same motive when he wrote 'american pie' - to put buddy on the musical map forever, as someone not only significant, but more significant than literally any of his contemporaries.

feel free to post your question - that's what the board is for. i certainly would not want to make anyone feel 'bad' just because they asked something about buddy. this isn't a contest.

Yes, it is a very good point. I almost feel bad alot of the time when I am posting something, because I know it comes off as being a know it all, and I know how much that can bother people, and in a way, yes, demean Buddy and his music. But I agree with Jerry, it is not a battle over the facts, it is simply a bunch of die-hard fans trying to learn more. But yes, feel free to ask questions, and alternitavly answer them. I have done my fair share of both, and no one is ever looked down upon for asking, or answering and being wrong. (I like to consider myself pretty buff on Holly trivia, and Ive been shot down a couple times, but never in a way that made me feel bad, Im glad to know the truth.) Wow, I sure hope no one gets that kind of vibe, because its not like that, I just like to talk and share info mon Buddy as much as possible, hence my being on this board .

Yes A Very Good point, I am surprised that more people do not seem interested, in certain facts known to a few lucky people, who actually saw Buddy performing live and spoke to him, yes like myself, these facts did not come from any books written about Buddy, but of course they can be checked out by his known tour dates.

I see no need for comparisons, and heated arguments over who was the best or what, all these acts contributed to the history of rock' n roll,or Hill Billy whatever you want to call it

If there had not been an Elvis, The world would not have known about Buddy or many others. it has nothing to do with talent, Buddy had a warmer voice than Elvis , it was not Buddys looks or maybe it was because like the Beatles he could have been the average guy next door.
In the case of Buddy, he was talented enough to write catchy songs, something Elvis could not do
But Elvis made the image Foot print for all to follow.

The point that bluelubbock puts forward is only a fact until the follow up post is read and obsorbed. Once somebody puts information down in a follow up post, that information is then read and enetered into the original posters memory banks thus making the original poster just as informed as the follow up poster (on that particular issue at any rate)

If anyone wants to give me more information about Buddy whether I asked for it or not, I will take that info and be all the better for it. At least I hope I will be
