I am looking for an aricle on Buddy's Ariel Cyclone Motorcycle that I have been advised appeared in the The Buddy Holly Memorial Society newsletter " Reminiscing.; possibly 8 to 10 years ago ? Can anyone advise the date ? and where I could purchse a copy ? or discuss with someone that has this issue "
I am reasearching this very rare and mysterious model and attempting to locate all existing Ariel Cyclones. Please adise if you know of any existing today or if you have ever seen one ;
or have any info on 1958 Ariel Cyclone motorcycles.
I understand ony about 203 were manufactured.

If you want to locate something dealing directly with the Buddy Holly Memorial Society, your best bet would probably be to email Bill Griggs (bill@rockin50s.com) and ask him about any back issues.
In case your next question is where Buddy's motorcycle is, I can't help you there....so if anyone else knows or if you email Bill, I'd love to know the answer. I can tell you where it has been, just not where it is....Buddy's dad had it until his death I believe, and then it was auctioned off, later to be bought back (or just found if it never was sold) by JI and Joe B to give to Waylon Jennings on his 42 birthday...after Waylon's death I believe it didn't sell or something and last I knew it wound up at the mueseum of Jonny Cash (don't ask about the connection)...but that place supposedly closed so who knows where it is now...the best guy, again, to ask, would be Bill. If he doesn't know the thing is unfindable.

It is basically a photo article of Buddy's
1958 ARIEL CYCLONE motorcycle; with a history about how he got it and who has owned it since.
There is also a very interesting 5 page article
" Buddy's Bikes - that'll be the day " in the
January 1995 issue of the " CLASSIC BIKE " an
antique motorcycle magazine from England. It tells of the day, May 13, 1958 that Buddy bought his ARIEL CYCLONE and Joe B. a Triumph
Thunderbird, and JI bought a Triumph Trophy TR6A. They road them from Dallas to Jacksborough
( 80 miles) that day and on to Lubbock ,through a rain storm the next day. JI , Joe B. and Sunny Curtis ( and possibly members of Waylon's crew ) bought Buddy's Cyclone in
Austin Texus and gave it to Waylon Jennings as a
surprize birthday present in 1979. He fired it up in a north Texus hotel room late at night after their last set ! Waylon kept it at his home and at the Cash Museum. I think it still belongs to Waylon's estate.

I am iterested in finding any other 1958 ARIEL
CYCLONE motorcycles that may still exist, to determine how rare they are. Am interested in hearing from anyone who has even seen an ARIEL CYCLONE in the last 20 years ! or has any info !

Fake Cyclones exist, made from the much more
available " HUNTMASTER " model by adding; high rise handelbars, sports fenders, and a small LUCAS # 529 taillight. They look right, have the CNLF ???? engine serial #, but do not have the special, higher horse power " HC8 " engine.

JI remembers stopping after the rainstorm and all the boys went into a shop and replaced their Levis.

apparently after they bought new jeans etc, they changed into them at a laundymat as they dryed their wet duds.
