hey everyone...I'm a 16yearold from Canada who is a Buddy fan...Sounds odd doesn't it?
haha anyways, i believe Buddy is the true king of rock but i'm not big on all of his songs and my knowledge is limited
my favorite songs are are "oh boy" "rave on" "think it over" "that'll be the day" and "bo didley"
is there any songs that are heavier like this? i really can't find them. Buddy seems to of had more mushy love songs, but i wanna hear that 50's/ hard/southern sound you know?

You're not the only oddity....both crazy_for_buddy and I are more crazy sixteen year olds who has this liking for Buddy Holly. Not all of Buddy's songs were mushy, although his main theme was almost always love. Even listening to his sadder songs like Blue Days Black Nights....it's a sad song...he can't stop thinking about a girl....but it has an upbeat tempo. Same thing with It Doesn't Matter Anymore. Little bit more poppy, but some say it may be the first f-you song of rock and roll. The best thing about 50s music is that they couldn't say it straight out (Wake Up Little Susie by the Everly Brothers comes to mind though they claim they meant nothing of the sort though it wound up being banned in the States for some time) so they found all different ways to say it (listen to Midnight Shift...hmmm)

Anyways yah i don't really like the slow, pop Buddy songs...I love the Rockabilli ones like i mentioned, those songs get me going man! haha

these are but a few - also, the ones recorded in 1956 by bobby peeples at a rehearsal that Buddy and Jerry did are just awesome, mainly because they're so raw and energetic. they include:

Ain't Got no Home
Good Rockin' Tonight

again, there are many others, but those are some definitely rocking songs.

I'd like to add "Not Fade Away" to the list, especially for that southern rock feel, and agree that "Rock Around With Ollie Vee" is another great rocker. "Slippin' & Slidin'" could almost pass for an Allman Brothers or Canned Heat song.
