Did Maria Elena take the name Holly or Holley? I mean, cause wouldn't all of Buddy's legal documents still say Holley, though he used Holly in his professional career? He only changed to Holly cause of the slip-up on the Decca contract, and not only did he forsee future problems with people spelling his name like that anyway, but he was also afraid he would lose the contract if he tried to correct Decca. But which name did Maria Elena take? And does anyone know what her married name is now?
they crowned Elvis as King, but Buddy was the rightful heir. -"Only pity was him leaving this life so soon."-Travis Holley "To talk about what influenced my drumming-Buddy's guitar playing influenced my drumming more than anything else. I haven't played with anyone since that I could play with as well, because I learned to play drums with what Buddy played." -Jerry Allison "No ma'am, I don't have time."-Buddy Holly

Maria Elena, and this makes no sense, took the name Holly, and that is still her married name today. While her marriage to whomever the other guy was (lol), her married name was Diaz I think, but after the divorceshe re-took Holly. On all the merchandise I just got from the Buddy Holly Cnter, every item says "authorized by Maria Elana Holly", and I've never seen it spelt with an "e". It makes no sense to me how shesable to have so much say in all of legal affairs (usgae of his name and such) without having it spelt the other way, not to mention how she would have seattled the matter of his estate after his death. But when you think of it the only real legal document Ive seen after Buddys death was his death certificate, which I dont believe would have had any mention of Maria Elena on it. Would be interesting to see their marrige certificate, to know for sure, because any time Ive seen Marias signature its been Maria Elena Holly, but ,just as Buddy did, that could just be her "proffesional name", because afterall, none of Buddys fans at the time would have known it was Holley instead of Holly....Ritchies family does the same, at functions and such go by Valens instead of Valenzuela, so my guess is that the usage of Holly was just for public purposes and not her actual married name.....whoa, confusing lol.
