okay if anyone read my post on meet-and-greet, then I stated I listened to other music also but always came back to Buddy Holly...but just a little example on how I get to listen to other music...by chance I bought a cd by Kevin Montgomery back in 93 or so...it was on sale and the cover looked interesting...the music would be what they call Americana, which was a good fit, because I like that kind of music, a little country with some rock etc...this has later been associated a lot with Johnny Cash also...but it wasn't long after that I bought the cd that I found out that Kevin Montgemory is Bob Montgomery's son...full circle...he is also dueting with Mary Chapin Carpenter on the Not Fade Away tribute cd...

It never ceases to amaze me how Buddy Holly, in his brief life, influenced the lives and careers of so damned many folks in the music industry. While they say that there's only 6 degrees of separation between any two people in the world, it seems like--in the world of music today--there's only 1 or 2 degrees of separation from Buddy Holly.

How strange it must be for the Montgomery clan to find itself in the limelight again and again over the years, not particularly because of their music, but because of Bob's association to Buddy.

It's always said how great of friends that Buddy and J.I. were, but Bob and Buddy must have been great friends also. I say this, becausw when Buddy was offered his first contract, I can't remember who it was, it may have not even been a contract, just those sessions in Nashville (I know all this info, really, my brain is just mush right now) and the producers said they wanted just Buddy, not Bob. Buddy was going to turn down the offer, because he felt Bob worked just as hard as he and should get the same break. But it was Bob who bowed out, telling Buddy to take the offer and not worry about him. They still would have been school boys at this time, probably about 18. Isn't that every young boy's dream to make it big? But Bob just told his friend to go on without him, it was Buddy they wanted, not Bob. Pretty strong friendship if you ask me.

bob was definitely a great friend to buddy.

he is now a famous record producer here in nashville, with his own well-earned reputation.

in fact, many people in nashville don't even know about his association with buddy, because he doesn't like to talk about it much. largely due to the grief, i'm sure.
