Allo! I am new to this website and I have never written before.I am a very big fan of Buddy Holly. I found that today is Jerry Allison's (of the Crickets) birthday, so a very very happy birthday to him! I did not know that the Crickets still play...I find that they played in the U.S. recently. This is very exciting news! I went to the Crickets website to see if they will play again but I could not find the information. Maybe somebody here could tell me? It would be lovely to see them live. So my question is: Does anyone here know if they will play live again and if it will be in the northeast? Or even in Canada??? Perhaps that is wishing too much. Also, do they play Buddy Holly songs too?? I hope to find out soon. Thank you!

Go to sonnycurtis.com and go to schedule, the schedule is limited and so you would have to check once in while. That's the closest thing I could find.

Thank you for your help. When I said northeast, I did not mean England! But it was nice to get an answer. I emailed the contact person on the Crickets website but I did not get an answer. So, thank you again!

I know, that's why I said to keep on checking the website becuase the schedule was limited in dates.

Whoops! I hope you did not mind me saying that little joke...I am just sad because they are staying so far away. Maybe I should have said it better. Now I see maybe its hard to say things clearly over internet! But I will keep checking that website as you suggest and I will keep hoping in the meantime! This seems to be the place on here to talk about Buddy's bandmates, so......
You know, it's funny. There's all these songs about "we'll always remember Buddy Holly" but what about remembering the Crickets? The real Crickets, I mean, Jerry Ivan Allison and Joe B. Maudlin. The ones that really had in on the magic and not the ones that played a chord and thought they had the name Cricket too. Although not all them called themselves Crickets either. Niki Sullivan, Sonny Curtis, Bob Montgomery (though he never called himself a Cricket), Don Guess, Tommy Allsup, Waylon Jennings and Carl Bunch, well, I don't think Buddy could have done it without them anymore than he could have done without Jerry and Joe B. So even though a fair number of the above listed are still alive, I don't think we ought to wait til they're dead until we think, wow, that guy was pretty instrumental in helping Buddy. (no pun intended ) Let's write a song about him.
These guys, all of them, basically formed rock and roll as we know it today, in that it's a self contained band, and (sadly) only more hard core bands write their own material. But I know I'd be sure lost if I didn't have rock 'n' roll today. That's thanks to Buddy Holly and the Crickets.

How do you explain that when questioned about his and his bandmates ages, Buddy would give his age, then Jerry would be three years younger and Joe B. four years younger. Yet in the Real Buddy Holly Story, Jerry drives past Lubbock High, saying Buddy graduated from there in 1955, and Jerry graduated in 1956. There is no mention of when Joe B. graduated. Now, I've heard of the accelerated program, but three years accelerated? Unless Jerry is messing up the years, because although he says they graduated a year apart, there's a later part in the movie titled Buddy Facts, and as the camera scrolls down the page, it's noted, year graduated: 1954. However, the difference in ages still stands. Both Buddy and Jerry would have been 17 when they graduated, due to when their birthdays fall, but it still comes down to does anyone know the actual years that Joe B. and Jerry were born?

Just as a side note here, one of the Crickets did recently die... Nikki Sullivan died this year, in his sleep, at the age of 66. Wow.

Waylon Jennings has died too, but I believe that was a complication from his diabetes or something along that line. There's got to be one heck of a band up in that rock and roll heaven, as the song goes, because Buddy's got a bass player (though who knows if Waylon ever picked a bass up again after that harrowing tour) and a rhythm guitarist. Surely he's managed to cajole someone into playing drums, cause nothing as trival as that stopped him in life.

Oh my gosh! Jerry Allison looks SO MUCH like my ex boyfriend it's scary...I just saw the pic in the biography section and I had always been trying to place who he looks like...it just hit me over the head...thats just freaky...

And Happy Birthday to Mr. J.I. Allison, who I believe turns 66 today. Not bad for the top third drummer in the world....may you live to see many more years, Mr. Allison.
