Does anyone know why Buddy Holly and Joe Maudlin got into a fight. It happened on there tour of England on March 25th 1958.

Are you talking about the fight where Jerry Allison knocked the caps off Buddy's front teeth? I believe Joe B. came into the hotel room carrying a cigar that he was ever so proud of. Buddy or someone asked him not to light up, but Joe B. did anyways, and the boys got into a tussle. Unfortunately, I've watched the Buddy Holly Story too many times now to discern fact from fiction and remember what I read without mixing it up with fake scenes from the movie, but I do believe that while the fight, as you call it, was caused by Joe B, though it was Jerry that knocked Buddy's front caps off.

I think your correct about the cigar and Joe B. Mauldin bringing it in, however the story i read was that, similar to the movie, they were kind of fighting for it when Buddys glasses fell and they both bent over at the same time to pick them up, at which time Joes head rammed into Buddys mouth and knocked his caps off. However I too have seen the Buddy Holly Story one too many times, so this could be incorrect, however this was the version that I've seen on several websites...

All right, here's the story, as recounted by Joe B. He had a cigar, and was damn determined to smoke it, even though all the windows were cloed in the small room (London, what else do you expect besides cold rain?). Both Buddy and J.I. didn't want him smoking, and so each grabbed one of Joe B's arms, intending to "stretch him out" so that one of them could grab the cigar with his free arm. Joe B. kinda anticipated this though, and meant to head-butt Buddy in the stomach so that he'd knock the wind out of him and turn Joe B. loose, so that Joe B could "take care of J.I." But at that moment, Buddy decided he was going to make a grab for the cigar, and so Buddy's mouth met with Joe B's head. When the caps got knocked out, it was like Buddy's teeth had been knocked out, just two holes. He was all ready to forfeit the show, but Norman re-talked them into it.
