I have noticed a decreased amount of activity on the forum and would like to know if there is any way to possibly increase peoples interest in posting more great Buddy Holly Topics . Are you open to new Ideas? I miss the days when people would post tons of stuff every day.

I know how you feel. I confess to having been more of a lurker than a poster, but I'm trying to turn over a new leaf. I recently posted to an old thread on "Who else do you collect" and I started a thread on the Winter Dance Party tribute tour that goes around in January and February of each year. (BTW, I saw that they're swinging out to California this year, so you might want to try to check them out! It's a great show.)

There is a certain sad inevitability to the overall discussion that we all have here. We are fans of an artist who hasn't recorded for 47 years - it's kind of amazing, and really speaks to the marvel that is Buddy Holly, that we're talking about him at all! The "lifers" on this board might have complete collections that they've listened to and analyzed completely - what else will they have to talk about? Then there are the teenagers who discover Buddy and enthusiastically sign on. That's fantastic, and I hope that their interest in Buddy leads them to explore other artists of that era, as well as current artists who continue to honor the work of those early pioneers. Eventually, though, even the youngsters will run out of new things to talk about. So there's the problem, the way I see it.

I also post to the forum at http://www.orbison.com, and much of the traffic on that (quite busy) board is personal. Many of the big posters there know each other, having met at Roy Orbison events held around the anniversaries of his birth and death. Of course, there are continually new members signing on. Orbison lived until 1988, so right there you have 30 more years of songs being recorded and shows being played. Also, there was a big resurgence of interest in his music in the last couple years of his life; between the Traveling Wilburys and his own solo album Mystery Girl, he was on the charts several times just before and after his death. Also, the sad, contemplative nature of much of his music might speak a little more strongly to today's young people than Buddy's mostly uptempo rockabilly style.

But, hey, that's just my opinion - I could be wrong. I guess the short answer is that there just aren't a whole lot of us, and that's just the way it is, and that's OK. Maybe something will come along to raise the interest in Buddy's music. Wouldn't another movie be great? I mean, one that uses the real names, gets into the whole Norman Petty thing, shows more of the friendships with other artists like the Everlys and Eddie Cochran, etc. That'd be pretty cool!

That and titles that were thrown around without the reciever really wanting them.
Buddy is still a huge part of my life, and quite honestly I really don't listen to anything unless it's at least a good 30 years old. Being a teenager now and listening to Buddy's music is great, because things haven't changed. Young love is still confusing as hell, hearts get broken, and hey, Buddy still tells it like it is. Not to mention it's amusing to find the little foreshadowing things in his songs (you're gonna miss me early in the morning is the best one I can think of right now) and to sit back and wonder how he could just do that, pull a song off the top of his head like that (You're The One) and still not think that his "rough copies" were all that great (all the apartement tapes) when really they were cetainly fine.
That's all I've got to say for the moment, we'll see how things go down and if I'm back.
