Jimmy Bowen
As a teenage rockabilly singer, Jimmy Bowen landed a Top 20 hit in 1957 with "I’m Stickin’ With You". The song was first released as a B-side to Buddy Knox’s number one song, "Party Doll". Both Knox and Bowen’s careers were bound together as they met in the 50’s and became the frontmen for “The Orchids”.
They were directed by Roy Orbison to Norman Petty’s Studio in Clovis, New Mexico, where they recorded "Party Doll" and "Stickin’ With You". The odd decision to release the two songs on the same album, under different names (Buddy Knox and the Orchids and Jimmy Bowen and the Orchids), created two separate stars – even though both Knox and Bowen were in the same group! Both went on solo tours both using “The Orchids” as their back-up band. Although Jimmy Bowen never released a Top 20 after the solo tour, Bowen still made many records and worked with Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Dean Martin.
Since the 1970’s, Jimmy Bowen has been a powerful executive in the music industry, becoming an influential figure in Nashville. He has held high posts at Capitol, MGM, Elektra/Asylum and MCA. He has been with MCA since 1986.
