Sil Austin and His Orchestra
Born Silvester Austin in Dunnellon, Florida, Sil Austin began playing saxophone at age 12. His biggest breaks came in 1949 when he joined the Cootie William’s Birdland house band and Tiny Bradshaw.
In 1956, Austin released his first Top 20 hit, "Slow Walk". In 1959, he released another hit called, "Birthday Party".
Sil Austin died on September 1, 2001 after a four year battle with prostate cancer.
