Chuck Berry
His influence on rock music is rivaled only by Elvis Presley and his sharp attitude and confidence has defined the rock style. Chuck Berry toured for many years carrying only his Gibson guitar, confident that he could hire a band that already knew his music no matter where he went! Berry’s early recordings, including “Maybellene” fully synthesized the rock and roll form, combining blues and country music with lyrics relating what the kids craved for at the time – girls, boys and cars.
Chuck Berry was influenced by Nat King Cole, Louis Jordan and Muddy Watters, who introduced Berry to producer Leonard Chess. Most of his famous recordings were on Chess Records.
Some of his songs include "Johnny B. Goode", "Rock and Roll Music", "Sweet Little Sixteen" "Havana Moon", "Wee Wee Hours" and "My Ding-a-Ling" his only #1 song!
