The Olympics
The Olympics were known for their popular dance hits such as "Baby Hully Gully", "Big Boy Pete" and "Mine Exclusively". The original line-up consisted of Walter Ward, Eddie Lewis, Charles Fizer and Walter Hammond.
Their first charted hit was "Western Movies", a novelty song that was released at the same time that Western-themed movies were creating a big buzz in America. The song reached number eight on the pop charts and number seven on the R&B charts in 1958. The success of the "novelty" song led them to release more novelty-type music such as "Big Boy Pete" and "Big Chief Little Foot". They’re music and lyrics were mostly humorous and upbeat.
The Olympics continued to play at oldies revival shows and the two remaining Olympics, Walter Ward and Eddie Lewis, still perform with new members. Charles Fizer passed away in 1963 and Walter Hammond retired.
