Paul Anka
Raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Paul Anka became one of the biggest teen idols of the late 1950’s. A child prodigy, he began his show-business life by the age of 12 as an impressionist. At the age of 14, he was performing amateur singing contests and writing his own songs. His first hit, “Diana” hit number one on both sides of the Atlantic in 1957, selling a reported ten million copies worldwide!
Within a year, Anka placed four songs in the Top 20 including, "You Are My Destiny" and "Crazy Love". He also wrote one of Buddy Holly’s songs, "It Doesn’t Matter Anymore". He moved into movies with "Let’s Rock" and "Girls Town" which spawned his biggest American hit, "Lonely Boy". 1959 because an extremely successful year for Paul Anka including, "Put Your Head On My Shoulder", "It’s Time To Cry", and "Puppy Love".
Moving from a teenager to an adult, Paul began performing for the adult audiences, performing at the Copacabana, a haven for sophisticates. He appeared in several more movies including "The Longest Day". One of the first pop singers to do shows in Las Vegas, he also hosted television shows like Hullabaloo, The Midnight Special and Spotlite. He wrote the theme to the "Tonight Show" and wrote Tom Jones’ biggest hit, "She’s A Lady".
