Tommy Allsup
Tommy Allsup began his career with the "Oklahoma Swingbillies" in Claremore, Oklahoma. He went on to play with various artists and bands such as the Johnnie Lee Wills Band, Art Davis and Jimmy Hall. From 1953 to 1958, he started his own band, "The Southernaires".
His career completely changed in 1958 as he began to record at Norman Petty’s studio in Clovis, New Mexico. This is where he met Buddy Holly. He started playing lead guitar with Buddy and the Crickets and went on to play with Buddy up until Buddy’s last show.
After Buddy Holly’s death, Tommy moved to California to join Liberty Records as an A& R rep where he produced greats such as Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, Willie Nelson, Bobby Vee, Vickie Carr and Julie London.
Tommy Allsup lives in Nashville and he is still active in the music business. He has played guitar or bass on over 6500 recording sessions.
