Hey everybody
I don't know how many of you are able to/do watch "Nashville Star". I never did before, but this season has got me sucked in, with biggest thanks going to a young man out of Arkansas named Jody Evans. This kid grew up listening to a primary combination of Elvis and Buddy and man, does it ever show. This guy is awesome and I am so glad that someone with his tastes and talent is getting so much exposure. This is just the kick in the pants that present day music (rock and country alike) needs.

So I went to the website out of curiousity, and the first thing I notice are the glasses. Score one. Click on the link, and watch the video.The first move the guy does looks like Buddy. He's got the feet moving, the shoulders going. Then, further into the song, you notice he taps his whole right leg. Remind you of anyone else that had this habit?
I was really impressed with the whole clip and the guy, he's good. Like ConversationFear said, there's definitely qualities of both Buddy and Elvis in the guy. Amazing.

His voice is more Elvis than Buddy, though there is a bit of Buddy there, and Jody, just a tip, don't ever fake playing the guitar. That's one habit of Elvis' you don't want to mimick.

How old is this kid? It says he's a police officer, but he still looks just like a kid.

I'm glad that you guys enjoyed it! I can't seem to find any information on his age, though. I agree, he looks SO young. All I know is that he said when he was little he always wanted to be like Elvis but he was the "nerdy" kid. When he was little his mom took him to see "La Bamba" and seeing just the small bit of Buddy in that film helped him realize that he could still have glasses and be above and beyond cool.
What year did La Bamba come out in theaters? Wasn't it like '89? If so, I would guesstimate that he's between the age of 23 and 27 maybe?

Speaking of "artists" that have had heavy influence by the 1950's (though they may not be of that generation) the first Canadian Idol winner bears a striking resemblance to Buddy Holly: the glasses, the skinniness; Ryan Malcolm also had an inability to dance. It was actually mentionned on the show, Ryan and Ben Mulroney were talking about how this fan had sent him a letter saying how he looked like Buddy Holly, and even sent him a CD of Buddy's songs, which Ryan said he was going to have a listen to. Wonder if he ever did.

For the individual who inquired about Jody's age...I did a little research. He's 28. I can't believe this guy is actually OLDER than I am.

Funny how fate works. I was watching The Dukes of Hazzard (for which Waylon Jennings wrote and sang the theme song for) and there's an advertisment for upcoming shows. What do you know, Nashville Star is one of them. So I watched it, just to see Jody live. Of course, we're talking about my luck here, so it was down to the very crunch before his name was called. I was actually kinda worried that he would get sent home the one week that I watched! Anyways, yes, there are some definite elements of Buddy in there, but he makes me think more of Elvis. Unfortunate, because this world needs more Buddy. Both music and looks wise.

Update! The Roxy Theatre in Clarksville, TN will be presenting "The Buddy Holly Story" from end of June thru August. Jody Evans will be playing the role of Buddy Holly.
