I have been wanting to write you this letter for many years now. Hopefully it will somehow reach you.

Ten years ago after meeting you at The Buddy Holly Festival in Lubbock I visited you at your home in Colleyville and later took you to lunch at Patrizio's in Highland Park Village. I remember we had a nice visit and had hoped that our new found friendship would last. I have not seen nor heard from you since. In August of that following year (1997) my mother was killed in an automobile accident. During that time I often thought about you - how we now were connected by a tragic event that changed our lives. Later that same year my father was attending a party at the then mayor of Lubbock's house and was speaking to her about a passion she had for bringing a Buddy Holly museum here. However she feared she wouldn't have the monetary backing or the support of the community. My father made the first donation for this venture for $100k in honor of my mother whose name and portrait now stands at The Buddy Holly center. This first donation put the wheels in motion for The Buddy Holly Center to become a reality - which it did. I didn't see you at the grand opening or at any of the parties that were associated with the center? You of all people should have been there, not only for history but for your husband. It saddens me when I think of the lack of support you have given to the center and how difficult a time you give the city of Lubbock. We established something in honor of your husband for generations to enjoy. Why can't you acknowledge that? Why can't or haven't you stepped up and made a donation to the center? Instead I see that you are auctioning everything you have of his off for your profit. Is this how you want to memorialize him?

Well said. I met her at the 1998 Festival and she seemed friendly enough, but her actions since then make me wonder.

Rex, Hi and first of all welcome. It does seem rather sad that Maria Eleana should auction off Buddy's things. A lot of them very personal to her relationship with Buddy. It does as BHL 2359 says, [Welcome to you too, although I see you've been on here since 2005!] make you wonder. It must be very difficult for her to be able to move on with her life having been married to such a famous man. Perhaps that is what she is trying to do by selling his things and seemingly not taking an interest in The Buddy Holly Center which your Father so generously donated to in honor of your Mom. People deal with grief in different ways and how ever much time slips by you never ever forget the person you lost. But of course those of us left behind must somehow continue with our lives and move on from our feelings of grief otherwise our lives would grind to a halt. I think after nearly 50 years Maria just wants closure and peace of mind. She is probably very honored that people still take such an interest in Buddy. But maybe likes to keep her thoughts private.
