Like said previous, happy birthday Buddy.
I like this thought: he's got a bass player (Waylon Jennings) a rhythm guitarist, (Niki Sullivan), and I'm sure he's managed to find a replacement drummer, cause nothing as trival as that caused him to slow down in his lifetime. So like the song says, "if there's a rock and roll heaven, then you know that they've got a hell of a band." Yes, they certainly do. May God rest all of their souls. Did you know that Charles Hardin Holley's original birth announcement actually said that a girl had been born to Mr. and Mrs. Holley? they crowned Elvis as King, but Buddy was the rightful heir. -"Only pity was him leaving this life so soon."-Travis Holley "To talk about what influenced my drumming-Buddy's guitar playing influenced my drumming more than anything else. to me, buddy is like fine wine, if you will...his music just gets better with age...
i guess if i had to pick a favorite song of his, it would be "i'm gonna love you too" - this is the one where the cricket chimes in at the end...on this tune you can hear buddy humming on the verses (he overdubbed this, along with his harmony elsewhere in the song) - a way cool production and arrangement. i remember a tribute album (one of many) that was done a few years ago, featuring various artists covering buddy's tunes. it was called "every day is a holly day". so even though it's his birthday, folks, let's remember that "every day is a holly day". |
