What other music do you all like?
My list resembles the likes of: REM, Patti Smith, 10,000 Maniacs/Natalie Merchant, Belle and Sebastian, The Hives, OKGO, White Stripes, Bright Eyes, Fats Domino, Elvis Presley, Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello, and so on and so forth.

The Beatles, The Big Bopper, Ricthie Valens, Elvis (rockabilly, not really 'Las Vegas'), hmmm other select songs from various artists. Ex. Johnny B. Goode, MAybelline, Summertime Blues, Earth Angel..etc.

Elvis (early, not fat elvis), Gene Vincent, Stray Cats, Bob Dylan, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and so on and so forth.

Well, im happy to see The Beatles are a common interest.

The Shadows, Niel Diamond, Everly Brothers (close friends of Buddy's), The british 60's groups, especially Hollies (!!!), Searchers and Beatles, Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, Eddie Cochran, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Lee Hazlewood, John D Loudermilk, Billy Fury, Adam Faith, Mike Berry (British 60's singers), Paul Revere & the Raiders. Whoops - really nothing newer than late 60's, sorry, but then again: "Rock and roll music has been going downhill ever since Buddy Holly died" ("American Graffiti")

I have a guilty confession to make. I used to like the Backstreet Boys. However, then came along Buddy, and the rest is history. And I'd never go back. I've found a lot of other oldies songs that I really like, rather than particular artists, like especially songs with tenor sax solos in them, like Come and Go with Me, Let's Twist Again, and Do You Wanna Dance. Even Buddy had a fair share of songs with King Curtis soloing, like Come Back Baby, Early In the Morning, Reminscing, and When Sin Stops and Jole Blon, produced for Waylon jennings. The Beatles sang some pretty good stuff, the Everly Brothers also, and The Eagles have a couple of excellent songs. I do like some more recent stuff too, like Savage Garden, and Maroon Five. Eddie Cochran, some of Elvis's songs, and Ryan Malcom. He kinda looks like Buddy Holly.

My list includes: John Hiatt, Van Morrison, Simon and Garfunkel, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Jackson Browne, John Mellencamp, Chris Rea, Led Zeppelin, U2 and I could go on...

Ritchie Valens kicks major ass. He'd probably be my favourite next to Buddy. I also love The Everly Brothers, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Roy Orbison, and more recenlty( and i realize that this sounds really strange) Marilyn Manson, Alexisonfire, Blink 182, The Killers and so on and so forth.....i apologize for my horrible tatse in mordern music, as this is what Im sure your all thinking right now.......however I do like some calmer morder music, like Weezer(one of my faves), and Coheed and Cambria.

Oh, ya, and the White Stripes rock too....

Well, I'm 17 and all the music I enjoy is mainly by artists who are no longer with us...

Buddy will always reign supreme for me but I also listen to The Beatles, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Smiths, Marvin Gaye, Mammas & Pappas, ALOT of motown (four tops, Diana Ross & the supremes, the platters, the drifters, too many to list!) I occassionally listen to classical music and ambience /sounds of nature.

I loathe the following with a passion: dance 'music', rap, garage, house, modern pop... Pretty much all 'music' that exists nowadays (with very, VERY few exceptions)...

I was born in the wrong era, I think I was meant for the 50/60's!

I know....if I had a choice I would have been born 30 years earlier...I'm 16 and wish I had been born in 1940, as I'm also a history freak () so I would have been 5 when the war ended, and 19 when Buddy Holly died, which would place me into the age group that accepted and loved his music back then.

I hear that...what I wouldnt give to have been a teenager back then as opposed to now...just think, we'd be able to actually see Buddy live (not that any of us would survive the show mind you, we'd all (well at least buddy_blue and I lol) permenatly faint. But I think the news of his death would be a little hard to handle...it still is 46 years later, never mind being headline news.

my taste pretty much runs the gamut, though i'm not much for rap or extreme heavy metal (too angry for me). to me, the world is hectic enough without soaking up more of the same in the music i listen to. in short, i guess i like music that touches me in some way - the performance, the lyrics, the melody or a combination thereof. i don't like pretentious music, or music that is intentionally offensive.

i basically grew up on Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bad Company, Foghat, CCR, etc... but at the same time i learned to really enjoy mellower artists such as Patsy Cline, Jim Croce, Lobo and Gordon Lightfoot. of course i like most of the 50's era music when things were at that raw stage, and no one quite knew if what they were doing was going to last - they just had fun with it. probably my favorites from that era besides Buddy (who's in a class all by himself), are Fats Domino and Sam Cooke. and i like the 60's greats as well - the Beatles, Beach Boys, etc... though not the Who or the Stones quite as much.

i also enjoy music from the 20's, 30's and 40's - the songwriting back then was just phenomenol. Irving Berlin is perhaps my favorite songwriter of all time, having penned "God Bless America", "White Christmas", "Blue Skies", and so many other standards. of course i like some of Sinatra's stuff, not to mention Bing Crosby and Judy Garland. the Mills Brothers are also a favorite from that era, and Glenn Miller as well.

another often overlooked artist that i have really come to appreciate is Django Reinhardt, possibly the greatest guitarist to ever pick up an instrument. if you've never heard this man play, i urge you to check it out. he was an established player, but was caught in a fire at one point and his chording hand was badly damaged. most people would've quit, but Django simply adapted and learned how to play all over again. when you hear him play, you'll hear him do things that defy description, especially if you're a guitar player.

i also enjoy a lot of the raw early folk and country music, such as Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter family. and i like a lot of country music from different eras also, including some of today's artists, such as Vince Gill, Sara Evans and Darryl Worley. and i like many Christian artists as well, such as Keith Green, Larry Norman, Wayne Watson, White Heart, and Twila Paris.

and i definitely like a lot of the classical composers, too - Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven - those guys just had a pen, paper and a piano, and literally changed the world forever. i could probably write a book full of artists and writers i appreciate and whose music i enjoy, but this is the short list. oh, and i can't leave out Stephen Foster, perhaps America's greatest songwriter, who died penniless at age 38.

My music taste is all over the place, my friends always comment on my CD collection.
I love the old stuff and loads of the came after and i have had my odd strange fasinations, I did love Take That deeply and profoundly!! (if truth be told i still do!! oh the shame)
But i spose a list of my favs would include: Bob Dylan (God!!!) The Doors, the stones, the beach boys, pink floyd, the kinks, the who, led zeppelin, the undertones, oasis, pulp, jack johnson, jeff buckley, the wannadies, eric clapton, jimi hendrix, belle and sebastian, and so teh list goes on!!!
I would just like to say though that i owe a lot of my musical experiences to a man named John Peel. Listening to his show on radio 1 introduced me to an amazing array of incredible bands, and i feel that i owe him a great deal. I don't know if many of the american fans on this site will know who i'm talking about but you've really missed out. There are not a lot of people like John Peel around and the day we lost him was for me 'the day the music died', i truely hope for his sake that heaven has a lot of record shops!! RIP John, i hope your happy!!
