Biography: Jerry Allison

Born Jerry Ivan “J.I.” Allison on August 31, 1938, he met Buddy at school in 1952 and they soon became great friends. In 1957, Jerry and Buddy wrote “That’ll Be The Day” after they went to see “The Searchers” starring John Wayne whose catch phrase in the movie was “That’ll be the day”. Jerry wrote and co-wrote some of Buddy’s greatest songs. |
Upon breaking up with his girlfriend, Jerry begged Buddy to change his new song, “Cindy Lou” to “Peggy Sue” – the name of his now famous girlfriend. It was a way to get Peggy Sue to love Jerry again and it worked! In 1958, Jerry and Peggy Sue got married – which became the title of the sequel song “Peggy Sue Got Married”.
Jerry currently still performs with the original Crickets.
