June 1, 2006Dixie Chicks new song "Lubbock Or Leave It" hurts Holley familyIn "Lubbbock or Leave It", Natalie Maines from the Dixie Chicks sings some lyrics that have hurt and confused the Holley family and the city of Lubbock. In "Lubbock or Leave It", Natalie sings, "I hear they hate me now/Just like they hated you./Maybe when I'm dead and gone/I'm gonna get a statue, too." The lyrics have struck a chord with Larry and Travis Holley who have stated that their brother Buddy "...was loyal to his hometown, his church and his family," clearly indicating the brothers' feelings about the lyrics of the song. According to the Dixie Chicks website, the song "is not just about Lubbock, but about any small, hypocritical town." |

March 22, 2006American Idol hopefuls perform some Buddy Holly tunes!Two American Idol contestants chose Buddy Holly as their inspiration for last night’s performance. Both Bucky Covington and Taylor Hicks sang their very own renditions of Buddy Holly classics that sent the crowd back to a time when Buddy was king! Bucky Covington, from Rockingham, NC, tried his best with “Oh Boy!”, but missed the mark…according to some viewers he made “Oh Boy!” very O-boring! Taylor Hicks from Birmingham, AL, the most unique performer in this year’s contest, captured the spirit of “Not Fade Away” and impressed the judges with his voice and not-so-cool dance moves.One American Idol contestant will be voted out tonight at 9PM EST! |

July 22, 2005"The Night The Music Died" Musical focuses on that one tragic night.The Moody Gardens Convention Center in Galveston, Texas is host to "The Night The Music Died", a musical produced by Mike Skiles. The musical is a "live rock'n'roll" concert and re-enacts Buddy Holly's final show at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. The show includes various songs from the artists on the Winter Dance Party Tour, as well as the finale performance of Don McLean's "American Pie". The show runs from July 26th to August 7th. May 30, 2005The Music of Buddy Holly and the Crickets DVD to be released in Europe on June 27th, 2005!Marking the 50th anniversary of Buddy Holly's emergence into rock & roll, Universal Music International is releasing a limited-edition DVD! This DVD will include a combination of archive footage and live performances with vintage clips and brand-new interview material. Interviews with various people in Buddy's life have been carried out specifically for this DVD - including those still living! The release features all classic Buddy Hits as well as both of Buddy's live performances on "The Ed Sullivan Show". "The Music of Buddy Holly and the Crickets" DVD also includes a bonus CD with 20 tracks chosen as personal favourites by Buddy's friends and colleagues, along with some surprise tracks.This DVD will only be available in Europe on June 27th, 2005. The North American version, dubbed "The Definitive Collection" will be released on the Geffen Label shortly. |

Soon to be released in the UK under the title, “The Music of Buddy Holly and the Crickets”, this CD/DVD collection boasts a complete archive of footage, new interviews and a 20-track audio disc! The North American package, dubbed “The Definitive Collection” will be released through Universal’s Geffen Label shortly. The specific release date has not been confirmed but we’re waiting and hoping that it will be soon! We'll keep you posted. |

September 10, 2004"Rockabilly" Multimedia ProjectLiberty International Entertainment and the Jerry Naylor Company are planning to release a double DVD set, four CDs plus a book portraying the "Rockabilly" era. The program produced by and featuring Jerry Naylor, former lead singer of Buddy Holly's Crickets, pays homage to his friends with whom he began his career: Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Gene Vincent, Buddy Knox, Johnny Horton, Bob Luman, Charlie Rich, Jerry Lee Lewis, and of course Buddy Holly, the man from whom Naylor inherited the mantle of lead singer of the Crickets. "Rockabilly" will be available for release in November 2004.
